يس ١

Ya Sin

وَالْقُرْآنِ الْحَكِيمِ ٢

By the Wise Koran,

إِنَّكَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ ٣

thou art truly among the Envoys

عَلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ ٤

on a straight path;

تَنزِيلَ الْعَزِيزِ الرَّحِيمِ ٥

the sending down of the All-mighty, the All-wise,

لِتُنذِرَ قَوْمًا مَّا أُنذِرَ آبَاؤُهُمْ فَهُمْ غَافِلُونَ ٦

that thou mayest warn a people whose fathers were never warned, so they are heedless.

لَقَدْ حَقَّ الْقَوْلُ عَلَىٰ أَكْثَرِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ٧

The Word has been realised against most of them, yet they do not believe.

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا فِي أَعْنَاقِهِمْ أَغْلَالًا فَهِيَ إِلَى الْأَذْقَانِ فَهُم مُّقْمَحُونَ ٨

Surely We have put on their necks fetters up to the chin, so their heads are raised;

وَجَعَلْنَا مِن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ سَدًّا وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ سَدًّا فَأَغْشَيْنَاهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ ٩

and We have put before them a barrier and behind them a barrier; and We have covered them, so they do not see.

وَسَوَاءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ أَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنذِرْهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ١٠

Alike it is to them whether thou hast warned them or thou hast not warned them, they do not believe.

إِنَّمَا تُنذِرُ مَنِ اتَّبَعَ الذِّكْرَ وَخَشِيَ الرَّحْمَٰنَ بِالْغَيْبِ ۖ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِمَغْفِرَةٍ وَأَجْرٍ كَرِيمٍ ١١

Thou only warnest him who follows the Remembrance and who fears the All-merciful in the Unseen; so give him the good tidings of forgiveness and a generous wage.

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْيِي الْمَوْتَىٰ وَنَكْتُبُ مَا قَدَّمُوا وَآثَارَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَاهُ فِي إِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ ١٢

Surely it is We who bring the dead to life and write down what they have forwarded and what they have left behind; everything We have numbered in a clear register.

وَاضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلًا أَصْحَابَ الْقَرْيَةِ إِذْ جَاءَهَا الْمُرْسَلُونَ ١٣

Strike for them a similitude -- the inhabitants of the city, when the Envoys came to it;

إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْهِمُ اثْنَيْنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزْنَا بِثَالِثٍ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا إِلَيْكُم مُّرْسَلُونَ ١٤

when We sent unto them two men, but they cried them lies, so We sent a third as reinforcement. They said, ’We are assuredly Envoys unto you.

قَالُوا مَا أَنتُمْ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا وَمَا أَنزَلَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ مِن شَيْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا تَكْذِبُونَ ١٥

They said, ’You are naught but mortals like us; the All-merciful has not sent down anything. You are speaking only lies.’

قَالُوا رَبُّنَا يَعْلَمُ إِنَّا إِلَيْكُمْ لَمُرْسَلُونَ ١٦

They said, ’Our Lord knows we are Envoys unto you;

وَمَا عَلَيْنَا إِلَّا الْبَلَاغُ الْمُبِينُ ١٧

and it is only for us to deliver the Manifest Message.’

قَالُوا إِنَّا تَطَيَّرْنَا بِكُمْ ۖ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهُوا لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْ وَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ١٨

They said, ’We augur ill of you. If you give not over, we will stone you and there shall visit you from us a painful chastisement.’

قَالُوا طَائِرُكُم مَّعَكُمْ ۚ أَئِن ذُكِّرْتُم ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّسْرِفُونَ ١٩

They said, ’Your augury is with you; if you are reminded? But you are a prodigal people.’

وَجَاءَ مِنْ أَقْصَى الْمَدِينَةِ رَجُلٌ يَسْعَىٰ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اتَّبِعُوا الْمُرْسَلِينَ ٢٠

Then came a man from the furthest part of the city, running; he said, ’My people, follow the Envoys!
