وَالطُّورِ ١

By the Mount

وَكِتَابٍ مَّسْطُورٍ ٢

and a Book inscribed

فِي رَقٍّ مَّنشُورٍ ٣

in a parchment unrolled,

وَالْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِ ٤

by the House inhabited

وَالسَّقْفِ الْمَرْفُوعِ ٥

and the roof uplifted

وَالْبَحْرِ الْمَسْجُورِ ٦

and the sea swarming,

إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَاقِعٌ ٧

surely thy Lord’s chastisement is about to fall;

مَّا لَهُ مِن دَافِعٍ ٨

there is none to avert it.

يَوْمَ تَمُورُ السَّمَاءُ مَوْرًا ٩

Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily

وَتَسِيرُ الْجِبَالُ سَيْرًا ١٠

and the mountains are in motion,

فَوَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ١١

woe that day unto those that cry lies,

الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي خَوْضٍ يَلْعَبُونَ ١٢

such as play at plunging,

يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا ١٣

the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna:

هَٰذِهِ النَّارُ الَّتِي كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ١٤

’This is the fire that you cried lies to!

أَفَسِحْرٌ هَٰذَا أَمْ أَنتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ ١٥

What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see?

اصْلَوْهَا فَاصْبِرُوا أَوْ لَا تَصْبِرُوا سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ١٦

Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.’

إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَنَعِيمٍ ١٧

Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss,

فَاكِهِينَ بِمَا آتَاهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ وَوَقَاهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ الْجَحِيمِ ١٨

rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell.

كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئًا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ١٩

’Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working.

مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّصْفُوفَةٍ ۖ وَزَوَّجْنَاهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ ٢٠

Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris.
