Ta Sin Mim

تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ ٢

Those are the signs of the Manifest Book.

لَعَلَّكَ بَاخِعٌ نَّفْسَكَ أَلَّا يَكُونُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ ٣

Perchance thou consumest thyself that they are not believers.

إِن نَّشَأْ نُنَزِّلْ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ آيَةً فَظَلَّتْ أَعْنَاقُهُمْ لَهَا خَاضِعِينَ ٤

If We will, We shall send down on them out of heaven a sign, so their necks will stay humbled to it.

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن ذِكْرٍ مِّنَ الرَّحْمَٰنِ مُحْدَثٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا عَنْهُ مُعْرِضِينَ ٥

But never fresh remembrance comes to them from the All-merciful, except they turn away from it.

فَقَدْ كَذَّبُوا فَسَيَأْتِيهِمْ أَنبَاءُ مَا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ ٦

So they have cried lies; therefore assuredly tidings will come to them of that they mocked at.

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا إِلَى الْأَرْضِ كَمْ أَنبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍ كَرِيمٍ ٧

What, have they not regarded the earth, how many therein We have caused to grow of every generous kind?

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ ٨

Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ ٩

Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate.

وَإِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبُّكَ مُوسَىٰ أَنِ ائْتِ الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ ١٠

And when thy Lord called to Moses, ’Go to the people of the evildoers,

قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ أَلَا يَتَّقُونَ ١١

the people of Pharaoh; will they not be godfearing?’

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَن يُكَذِّبُونِ ١٢

He said, ’My Lord, I fear they will cry me lies,

وَيَضِيقُ صَدْرِي وَلَا يَنطَلِقُ لِسَانِي فَأَرْسِلْ إِلَىٰ هَارُونَ ١٣

and my breast will be straitened, and my tongue will not be loosed; so send to Aaron.

وَلَهُمْ عَلَيَّ ذَنبٌ فَأَخَافُ أَن يَقْتُلُونِ ١٤

They also have a sin against me, and I fear they will slay me.’

قَالَ كَلَّا ۖ فَاذْهَبَا بِآيَاتِنَا ۖ إِنَّا مَعَكُم مُّسْتَمِعُونَ ١٥

Said He, ’No indeed; but go, both of you, with Our signs, and We assuredly shall be with you, listening.

فَأْتِيَا فِرْعَوْنَ فَقُولَا إِنَّا رَسُولُ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ١٦

So go you to Pharaoh, and say, "Verily, I am the Messenger of the Lord of all Being;

أَنْ أَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ ١٧

so send forth with us the Children of Israel."

قَالَ أَلَمْ نُرَبِّكَ فِينَا وَلِيدًا وَلَبِثْتَ فِينَا مِنْ عُمُرِكَ سِنِينَ ١٨

He said, ’Did we not raise thee amongst us as a child? Didst thou not tarry among us years of thy life?

وَفَعَلْتَ فَعْلَتَكَ الَّتِي فَعَلْتَ وَأَنتَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ ١٩

And thou didst the deed thou didst, being one of the ungrateful!’

قَالَ فَعَلْتُهَا إِذًا وَأَنَا مِنَ الضَّالِّينَ ٢٠

Said he, ’Indeed I did it then, being one of those that stray;
