Al-Mâ’idah 5:71

وَحَسِبُوا أَلَّا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ فَعَمُوا وَصَمُّوا ثُمَّ تَابَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ثُمَّ عَمُوا وَصَمُّوا كَثِيرٌ مِّنْهُمْ ۚ وَاللَّهُ بَصِيرٌ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ ٧١

Wahasiboo alla takoona fitnatun faAAamoo wasammoo thumma taba Allahu AAalayhim thumma AAamoo wasammoo katheerun minhum waAllahu baseerun bima yaAAmaloona

And (besides) they held the view that (killing or belying the Messengers) would not result in any torment. So they became blind and deaf. Allah, then, accepted their repentance. But most of them (again) turned blind and deaf (i.e., incapable of perceiving the truth by seeing and hearing). And Allah is Ever-Watchful of what they are doing. (5:71)
