۞ قَوْلٌ مَّعْرُوفٌ وَمَغْفِرَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِّن صَدَقَةٍ يَتْبَعُهَا أَذًى ۗ وَاللَّهُ غَنِيٌّ حَلِيمٌ ٢٦٣
Qawlun maAAroofun wamaghfiratun khayrun min sadaqatin yatbaAAuha athan waAllahu ghaniyyun haleemun

Polite conversation (with the needy) and extending tolerance are far better than charity followed by injuring (his) heart. And Allah is Self-Sufficient, Forbearing. (2:263)
