فَلَوْلَا إِذْ جَاءَهُم بَأْسُنَا تَضَرَّعُوا وَلَٰكِن قَسَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ ٤٣
Falawla ith jaahum basuna tadarraAAoo walakin qasat quloobuhum wazayyana lahumu alshshaytanu ma kanoo yaAAmaloona

Then why did they not humble themselves and wail and moan when Our torment came upon them? But (the fact is that) their hearts became hardened, and Satan made those (sinful) acts that they used to perpetrate appear to them attractive and alluring. (6:43)
